Closer Walk and Lost in the Woods1996–2016
Not a passing glance — watch the river flow under your feet.Peter de Lory, Seattle, 2016
A twenty-year gathering of images made in the forests and river corridors of the Pacific Northwest and the American West — from Stehekin, Washington, to Taneum Creek and beyond. Closer Walk and Lost in the Woods moves between self-portraiture, wildlife, and the aftermath of wildfire, tracing a single walker's relationship to wild land over two decades.
The thirty-four images span 1996 to 2016, gathered under a title drawn from Peter de Lory's own writing on the work: a meditation on moving through landscape at the pace of attention rather than distance.
